A House Without Books Is Like A Room Without Windows
Help my students build their home libraries by providing each child with their own books to take home.

My Students
Frederick Douglass, the great American social reformer, abolitionist and writer once said, "when you learn to read, you will be forever free."
This year my role as academic interventionist gives me the opportunity to work with students from kindergarten to 2nd grade.
I get to show them how to relish and love the freedom reading affords them . My main focus as a k-2 interventionist is phonics instruction and reading fluency.
I teach at title one school where over 95% of our students qualify for reduced and free lunches.
My Project
At the beginning of the school year my students took a book interest survey and sadly about 50% of the students I service said they didn't have books to read at home.
In order to promote family literacy and especially read-aloud time with parents, I would like to give all my students books to help them stock up their home libraries.
Research shows that reading brings families together. Reading is a gentle and powerful way to revive personal contact, ward off interruptions, and strengthen relationships.
I believe that by providing books for my students to take home, their parents or guardians will read to, and with them, and thus create a lasting family bond built on the love of books and reading.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
