Differentiating instruction is key to reaching every student in a culturally diverse classroom. Fifty percent of my students are English language learners, with two of them recent migrants with little to no English. Listening to RAZ Kids and other reading programs is essential for these students to help them build their vocabulary while working on correct pronunciation. With headphones, students will be able to independently follow along without disturbing other students who may be working on other differentiated activities. Task cards are a good way of practicing skills taught, and students can work with them independently during math workshop. A good laminator will ensure that task cards are well-made and will stand the test of time.
