Having a classroom that every student is comfortable in is important to me as an inclusive educator. The following materials are requests from both my students and myself. The variety of flexible seating I have chosen will allow students to have more comfort in their learning environment. The clipboards on my list will allow the students to freely move around the classroom to use those alternative seating options. Comfort is a priority within my classroom, which is why I have also selected the fidget toys. We currently do not have any fidget toys in my classroom and I would love to be able to provide my students with sensory needs a way to express their excess energy and pent-up emotions. The floor lamp is another way to provide comfort as I can create a calmer space without the need of the super large bright ceiling lights that can bother my students with sensory needs. I have also selected a variety of inclusive books from underrepresented authors. As an inner-city public school teacher it is crucial to create a space in which each student can see themselves within the classroom. Additionally, I have requested art materials such as markers, construction paper, and watercolors, as I love to use art to enhance my student's learning. Lastly, the Yoto player and magnetic tiles would be magical gifts for my students. We begin our mornings with a soft start and these items would be used to enhance that morning time.
My students deserve these materials as they are extremely hard workers who should have a space where they can feel at home in.
We spend around 6 hours of our day inside of our classroom, and I would love to make it as comforting and loving as possible.
