Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love my 4th and 5th grade students’ enthusiasm for hands-on learning and their curiosity about the world around them. They are eager to explore, ask questions, and engage in activities that allow them to see science in action. This project will provide them with the essential gardening tools and materials to transform our school’s designated garden bed into a thriving, educational space where they can learn firsthand what it means to be a horticulturist.
Through this project, my students will step into the role of young horticulturists, learning about plant life cycles, sustainability, and the importance of caring for the environment.
The gardening tools we’re requesting—such as trowels, gloves, watering cans, and soil—will make a significant difference by giving students the proper equipment to engage in real gardening work. These tools will allow them to plant, nurture, and observe the growth of flowers, vegetables, and herbs, reinforcing science and environmental lessons in a hands-on way. Our school garden will not only beautify our space but will also serve as an outdoor learning lab for all our science lessons. Many of my students do not have the opportunity to garden, and this project will give them a chance to develop new skills, build confidence, and foster a love for nature. With the right resources, we can cultivate not just plants but also curiosity, patience, and a sense of accomplishment in each student.
