I have a diverse population in my classroom each facing their own academic challenges: Yet all of these students will benefit from the self discoveries that occur with hand on exploration. My students enjoy working in cooperative groups, scientific exploration, making things and problem solving. These are the skills of the future.
I want to transform my student text book learning into 21st century learning, but learning in a school that has the largest student enrollment in Reno, over 56 teachers, 8 of which are teaching in my 3rd grade level can be challenging.
With such a large number of classrooms, teacher and students supplies are becoming scarce.
My Project
During this unit the students will be studying 6 of the bodies systems. These materials will provide hands on learning and provide a visual aid to how the systems are interconnected, what the organs looks like and the how their individual structure serves the function. Through read-alouds and text many of my students have been engaging with the information on a surface level.
By incorporating 3 dimensional models and games I am purposefully creating a fun learning environment where information moves to the student's long term memory, therefore providing all of my students the opportunity to build on and extend their knowledge in the future.
These students will be capable of conceptualizing abstract concepts. I wish to provide them with the knowledge of how to take care of their bodies and inspire them to look at the field of science and engineering for their future.
