Help me give my students drones to enhance their collaboration skills and usher a new generation of drone operators! These drones can plant the important early seeds of interest in an exciting career opportunity and widely applicable skills.

My Project
I am seeking funding for five hand-operated drones. As an aspiring certified STEM school, we encourage students to develop a profile of attributes that support success in STEM fields. These include collaborating strategically, communicating effectively, competing willingly, and using technology, among others. These easy-to-operate drones provide opportunities for students to practice all those skills while gaining experience operating a drone.
With these drones, team-building collaborative games and obstacle courses lay the foundation for learning.
Students will work in small teams to play the familiar balloon game of Don’t Let it Touch the Floor with this exciting tech twist, for example. They will use the engineering design process to invent challenges to navigate with the drones. Best of all, they will use their creativity engaging in inventive play. Our students have endless ideas to share when they have inspiring tools in their hands, or in this case, hovering above them!
Learning how to operate a simple drone will prepare students to explore more complex drones, and could very well inspire a future drone pilot! Drone pilot certification is attainable at age 16 in our state. If youth are unaware that such a certification exists, they miss the opportunity to explore that path. Early exposure to drone flying mitigates that risk, but we cannot do it without the funding to supply drones.
