This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my virtual classroom are very smart and curious children. Their minds are open to new and exciting challenges. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the “classroom”. Despite the many challenges they face, I am happy to provide new and exciting learning techniques and methods to teach them. My students come to our online school each day wanting me to provide them with many opportunities to grow as young mathematicians, readers, writers, artists, and scientists. With my help and guidance they will be able to keep growing as students, as young adults, as employees, and as well-rounded, happy successful people.
My Project
All of my 3rd graders are learning at home for the first time in their lives. I provide lessons each day online to not only teach them new ideas and concepts, but help them to be a happy child. In this new mode of school, children have a new challenge of being away from a familiar school setting, friends, other teachers, and school staff. Managing their self esteem and coping skills have become a new thing to learn.
After receiving the book, Kid President’s - Guide to Being Awesome, my students will have new techniques to improve their self esteem and to feel awesome.
Kid President is a 11 year old kid on YouTube that makes short videos on ways to be awesome and how other people have been awesome in their lives. We have watched many of these episodes and gained new ways to become awesome and to share the idea of being awesome with others. The episodes are funny and engaging to my students. The book follows the episodes and shares many more ways to be awesome.
Not only is Kid President a kid around the same age as my students, he is African American. My class is racially diverse, and eager to see others that look like them in books. In this book, Kid President, also known as Robby Novak, shares many ways to be awesome. Number 68 is- Be Kind- It’s not always easy, but it’s always important. In this 254 page book, the children will be able to read to laugh, to learn, and to connect with others. Unlike other books, this is a book that can be read many many times. In this book, they will find new and fun ways to improve their self esteem and to become a more happier awesome child.
