This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Most students in classrooms across the United States are fortunate enough to have their basic needs met each day in their lives. Unfortunately, for my students that is not the case. Most of my students come to school hungry, without school supplies, and do not have the best start to their day.
I am teaching in a high poverty school in Illinois and many students come to school without the necessary supplies.
My students don't have the supplies they need each day in order to learn. Unfortunately, we have to waste too much learning time passing around supplies to make sure everyone is ready for the day. My students deal with a multitude of social and emotional issues so my goal is to have them not have to worry about supplies that they do not have.
My Project
By donating these basic supplies such as markers, pencils, scissors, journals, glue sticks, and sentence strips, you are giving each of my students an opportunity to become a successful learner. My students will take pride in their very own supplies because sadly many don't even have these basic supplies at home. It will motivate them each and every day to take pride in their work and continue to strive to do their best.
These supplies will make a huge difference in my classroom on a daily basis.
We will no longer have to devote the first 10 minutes of each day passing out needed supplies. Each student will have their very own supplies in a bin and will be ready to learn as soon as they walk through my door each morning. We will then be able to devote more time to learning which will help them be more successful in second grade.
