My students need the beginnings of a wonderful classroom experience. Access to a printer that they may not have elsewhere, organizational tools and basic classroom necessities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We all come to school to get an education and some have what they need, some do not. The students in my classroom are unlike most. They have seen and experienced things that many adults that I know will never have to experience. Some of my students will come to school with the bare minimum, if anything, simply because school is their safe zone.
The district that I am in is made up of primarily low income families who may struggle to have the necessities at home and school is just one more thing that they have to juggle financially.
School for these students is more than just school, it is a guaranteed hot meal, running water with heat in the winter and air in the summer.
I want to give ALL of my students the same starting point while in my classroom. I want them to have all of what they need and some things that they want. I want to provide the organization, structure and stability that these students may not otherwise obtain.
My Project
Having these a printer and stationery items in the classroom readily available for the students use will alleviate some of the outside stress that they may experience. Something as simple as a pencil to write with can make the largest difference in the broad spectrum of education. These items will allow the students to begin the year on the same page.
Storage and organization items create a sense of structure and stability that students thrive in, even if they will not admit it.
Having such items give the students a place to keep their things and make the best out of what they have or have been given.
