This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a Title I, Pre K-3 elementary school with a diverse, multicultural population of approximately 600 students. 100% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My Kindergarten thru 3rd grade reading intervention students strive to be good readers.
Most of our students are part of the English Language Learner program. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best to achieve our high expectations. We are so excited to be together again in the classroom after being home for the last year due to the pandemic. However, it is quite noticeable that doing school from home has affected their reading skills.
My Project
Having bright, colorful materials, motivates students to work hard toward their reading goal.
Help me give my students access to phonics activities and books that will greatly improve their reading skills.
The whisper phones will allow students to read over kids who are reading next to them. The phonics games will provide independent practice with a partner. The brightly illustrated books will be used as check out materials to practice new skills at home. The goal is to build reading stamina and confidence which will lead to a love of reading!
