I am a part of an ICT setting in a high poverty school with students ranging from low to moderate functioning levels. In our classroom this year, our students are English language learners and students of many cultures, as well as students with special needs. Our school is Title I (high poverty) and consists of approximately 800 students, 350 of whom are English Language Learners. Each grade has 2 ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) classrooms that consist of 2 teachers and at least one paraprofessional. More specifically, each ICT classroom contains approximately 12 students with moderate to severe learning disabilities and approximately 18 general education students. Within our classroom specifically, our students who have special needs are also English language learners.
My Project
Most of the students in my class are visual learners, therefore, using technology in my classroom is of the utmost importance.
An Apple MacBook Air, connected to my Smart Board, would allow for my students to interact with my daily lessons, while integrating both groups at work and those who can work independently.
That would be a dream come true. Technology in a classroom seems to make learning come alive!
In addition, I believe that to help my students succeed, it is vital that they be exposed to the learning tools that can be found now a days on the internet.
Most of my students do not have internet or even a computer, they are limited to using their parent’s cell phones, if they are at all available to them. It is for these reasons, I am requesting a MacBook Air.
Bringing a MacBook Air into the classroom will also allow me to utilize my Promethean Board which now doesn't have a computer that is compatible. This request will allow me to bring my lessons to life, to research the world with my students, and show them things they have only quested about. Using technology in my classroom is so limited, since all forms of technology are so out dated.
