A Golden Opportunity: Cymbals for Graduation

My students need a pair of concert cymbals and cymbal accessories for the Graduation Band.

My Students

This is the first year our school has had a band program, and we've been tasked at playing "Pomp and Circumstance" for the graduation ceremony this spring, but we're missing some of the most important instruments for this piece!

We are a small, inner-city charter school that has never had a music program before, so we are building entirely from scratch!

We are a Title 1 school, and many of our students are at an economic disadvantage and can't afford their own instruments. Our band class not only serves the greater school, but provides an atmosphere where students on alternative assessments can express themselves.

My Project

Our band is just beginning (some of our students have never played instruments before), and they are very proud of their accomplishments. They are eager to learn and to learn new techniques, but our percussionists are limited by the few (and borrowed) instruments that we have. We have been tasked with performing at our spring Graduation, but are lacking some essential instruments for this performance!

By having a pair of concert (crash) cymbals, we can begin to build a percussion program that the kids can be proud of.

They want to be able to perform for the school and community, but don't have the tools to do so. We hope to give the students the musical skills necessary to go on to be appreciative of the arts that surround them in their community. A band program inspires hard work and dedication, and will give them skills that will help in their further academic endeavors.
