This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance our Book of the Month initiative to help our students realize they can use their voice to make a change in our world. By having one book title across the school each month, we can have shared conversations about what it means to use our voice to make a change.
We have a large immigrant population and often have students who love to express themselves through the arts.
We have no doubt they will enjoy the poetry in this book, whether in English or Spanish!
Every book that is part of our Book of the Month initiative is read aloud on our school website by a staff reader, in both English and Spanish, for our families to read at home. All of these books are also available for our students in the classroom to read over and over again. The activities that the teachers do with the students related to the book have ranged from text-to-self connections to supporting their reading comprehension skills through writing. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help our students grow stronger in reading.
