Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in an impoverished area of San Antonio. The homes are older and need maintenance but for what the community and district lacks in funds, the people show with Heart. We have been immensely blessed, Our families are amazing, the students respectful and our Teachers love what they do!
As Covid has still continued to cause learning set backs and health scares, I've decided it is time to bring light back to campus and our community by starting a Campus Garden for my colleagues, students, and our families.
My Project
I will be using these materials to teach students the world of gardening. As a mother of a 3 year old with a speech delay, I used gardening to help encourage my own child to speak by using my garden at home to count flowers, learn colors, learn vegetables and fruits and counting them as they grew. We often caught lady bugs and counted those too!
We fell in love with gardening this way but most importantly it gave him a love of learning and understanding, and most importantly a purpose which was to help his garden grow!
I'd love to share this with my students, teach them in this manner and allow them to share these new found skills with their families.
