Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year we had a school beautification and I was able to start a small garden of vegetables with my 4th grade class. This generated interest from the entire school: from TK to 5th grade. Even the classroom teachers want to start a garden box for their classroom. We have no funding for this project.

If we receive more garden boxes and more supplies it would do two things.

First, we could beautify our school and improve the quality of life of an underserved community in a highly urban environment. Bringing green spaces to our neighborhood will be conducive to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all. Second, we can incorporate hands-on science learning for our students. We can teach them about gardening, where their food comes from, and we can teach nutrition as well.
