My Project

With the COVID-19 pandemic putting a pause to in-person learning, my students have been deprived of hands-on learning opportunities and the ability to express their knowledge in multiple means of expression. In my classroom, I want to make learning fun by providing various methods in which students can embrace their different learning styles.

Art is an important subject in schools as it allows students to express their creativity as well as develop social-emotional skills.

However, with online learning and the lack of arts education programs in elementary schools, my students have not been able to fully embrace their artistic abilities and reap the benefits of art education. With supplies such as the art drying rack, I can make art a consistent part of my classroom instruction inspiring my students to use their imagination and engage in self-care activities to improve mental health.

With the increase of mental health issues in children, it is important to teach students how to identify and cope with their feelings. Furthermore, teaching students the importance of diversity and inclusion can create a classroom environment where students feel welcomed and safe being who they are. With the pandemic having a negative effect on mental health and social skills and well-being, I prioritize intentional social-emotional learning (SEL) in my classroom. The diversity and inclusion prompt cards will allow my students to have purposeful conversations about SEL topics and help us to build a stronger classroom community.

Math and Language Arts are important core subjects that impact the future success of students. Online education has had a detrimental effect on students' math and reading skills. With the math wipe boards and reading phones, students will be able to learn and practice important skills in a new and engaging way!
