This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Kindergarten and First Grade students are a very diverse group.
Our school is an inner city school where 92% of our families qualify for free and reduced price meals.
We also have a program where we send home food on the weekends for our neediest families. Also, a majority of our students are English as a Second Language learners and the only time they speak English is at school. Many of their parents work 2 jobs and can only afford basic necessities.
My Project
The kindergarten students will be given an opportunity to visit The North Carolina Zoo to experience "real life" animals. The students will be able to make connections to everyday learning by experiencing different animal habitats. The zoo tours will stimulate curiosity about animals and their habitats and encourage respect for the natural world, and the actions they can take to help protect and preserve Earth’s precious natural resources. My students will explore the unique climates and organisms of the world's major plants and animals while making connections to NC Zoo habitats. While at the Zoo, we will use observational skills to analyze many different features of animals.
