This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Starting kindergarten is a big step for any child, but for many of my students, it's their very first experience in a classroom—and often in a new language. I teach at a Title I school where many of our learners are newcomers to the country, meaning they are English language learners. They bring curiosity, resilience, and so much potential—but they also need extra support to feel safe, focused, and ready to learn.
This project will provide essential materials like headphones and noise-canceling headphones to help students concentrate during learning activities without being overwhelmed by noise.
Chewelry (chewable jewelry) offers sensory comfort and helps with self-regulation, especially for students navigating new environments and emotions.
Basic supplies like crayons, pencils, and pencil trays will ensure that every child has what they need to participate in hands-on learning and express themselves creatively. Building blocks will encourage cooperative play, language development, and problem-solving skills. A colored printer will allow me to create personalized visual supports, student work displays, and vibrant awards that celebrate their hard work and progress.
These resources may seem simple, but they are powerful tools that will help my students build confidence, feel cared for, and fall in love with learning from day one.
