This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This will be year 11 for me as a teacher in a K-5 Emotional Behavioral Disorder room. I work with students who may have experienced trauma in their lives and struggle to regulate their emotions. I also work with students diagnosed with Autism, who also have a hard time regulating how they react to situations due to social deficits. My goal each year is to create a safe and open learning environment that helps each child be who they want to be in a way that is socially accepted by others. Many of these children work through things that you and I have never had to. Their resilience is a model to us all.
Many times, my students are with me for multiple years and we would love change, a chance to start anew.
The items in this project, such as meditation cushions, carpet strips, and seating pillows, will allow for alternative seating that also provides a calming outdoor setting. Border and all decals will give us a new look in our classroom and help allow students to feel like they are starting a fresh year in a new classroom. Would you be willing to help us?
