Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This school year, our school has embarked on an inclusive journey. We have chosen to create a peer mentor group (ambassadors) that includes both students with and without disabilities. We have used Unified Champions Curriculum and Strategies to introduce students in the general education classes, nominated by their teachers, to students with differing abilities (special education students in a self contained classroom). Students have participated in 2 monthly activities, fields trips, holiday parties and our capstone activity, Sports Day (May 29th). Our ambassadors have built caring relationships with their buddies. Both buddies and peer mentors alike look forward to and are so excited to spend time together. The ambassador group has spread the word of inclusion in a way that requests to participate in the Ambassador program has grown! These students have learned different ways of communicating, interacting and including those that are different then they. Lessons we hope they will carry with them into adulthood. Peer buddies have shown social and behavioral growth that comes only from organic interaction with peers their age.

We need YOU to help us CELEBRATE these amazing students and all they have created and done for each other and our school!

Our Ambassador students and peer buddies are requesting these items to throw an unforgettable year end party and we adults would love to support their ideas and throw this party for them. Please consider helping us obtain the supplies for celebrations not just this year, but years to come as we continue our inclusive journey to creating a school culture where everyone is valued and included.
