In today's climate many students are coming back to school with added stress. They are dealing with stressors related to COVID-19, lack of closure from last school year, riots seen on TV, and earthquakes when the schools closed down for COVID in March and the uncertainty of schools remaining open and loved ones that may get sick. In this culture it is imperative that school personnel have tools that support regulation and calming that allow students to more freely speak with mental health professionals. I am asking for the listed items because in my 20 years of experience I notice that students are more able to comfortably speak when they are given manipulatives. These items allow me to further problem solve and process stressors allowing them to return to the general education setting ready to learn.
