Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hungry. They are hungry to explore all the wondrous things life has to offer.
I teach 24 first graders.
I KNOW that they will all be a positive force in our little community. They attend a public school in a high poverty area of the city. All of our students are on the federal free meal plans. Many are on campus from 7:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening.
My Project
"Lemurs arrived in Madagascar as castaways millions of years ago and evolved into hundreds of diverse species but are now highly endangered."
We need donor support to pay for our admissions to experience a IMAX 3D movie entitled "Islands of the Lemurs: Madagascar." This will tie in to our current science unit on various life cycles as well as our exploration of how our actions affect our environment and world.
This movie may be the first 3D experience for many of the children and will keep the students engaged and interested in what we are reading about and researching in our classroom lessons.
Because school buses are expensive, we will be taking the metro to the California Science Center. We participated in the MetroLink training and will be able to ride the metro for free to our destination. What an adventure!
Students cannot learn by reading books alone.
This field trip opportunity will allow them to understand that our actions are not simply a world problem, but a you-and-me problem.
Our trip has been reserved for April 24th of this year. If we can get the funds, we can go! If we can't, we would have to lose our deposit and find somewhere else to take our free bus to.
Please help 24 wonderful 1st grader to their 3D educational experience.
