Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a small, cozy neighborhood elementary school in Virginia. The children in my building are lively and great kids. They appreciate and evolve from positive but firm motivation and are very bright when focused and interested. We were named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2006. Our school was renamed in June of 2018.

I love teaching grades Pre-K through first because kids at these stages are so enthusiastic and happy to learn!

I feed off of their enthusiasm, and it makes me want to provide them with even more innovative learning experiences!

My Project

I don't know what it is, but I feel a calm this year now that I am back in person teaching my kids. Even though I have to teach several new curricula and we all have to get up much earlier because of the new arrival times, I feel peaceful about it. I just want to make sure that when my students are at school, they are productive and thriving!

My kids are slowly acclimating to it all and while it has been a process, they are showing sign of grasping the basics that I have been teaching!

I am asking for items to use as incentives and motivators such as Skittles, Play-Doh, skin tone Band-aids (which my kids love for some reason A LOT), as well as items that will assist with basic classroom tasks. SPECIFICALLY, I am asking for candy for my candy machines; plug-in disco lights for our impromptu SEL "movement moments" (where we dance for five minutes); and essentials such as a staple gun and batteries.

These items are helpful to my children because they make coming to school fun because they know that they have opportunities to move and receive a treat on "FriYay TreatDays" (every Friday, those kids who behaved during the week will receive a treat in the forms of snacks, extra playtime, or a trip to the treasure chest)!
