My Students

Our classroom is filled with an energetic, curious, diverse, and amazing group of learners! They are passionate about learning new things through exploration and collaboration. Our classroom is based on whole brain teaching and incorporates elements that make the students feel comfortable, such as unique lighting, plants, and cozy spaces. I have also introduced flexible seating this year, which gives students a degree of choice where they may sit during daily activities. This has made a very positive impact on our learning this year!

The students feel empowered and engaged when they are in control of this seating choice, and they are noticeably more focused!

Along with flexible seating, I would like to provide my students with fidget tools. A fidget is an object that aids with focus and attention by allowing the brain to filter outside sensory information. By keeping the hands engaged in simple, repetitive motor movements, students are able to 'tune out' distractions.

My Project

This project is an extension off of a recently funded project. Students in my class are particularly loving sitting at our "low table" where they are able to sit at the ground, but I would like to provide them with further options to sit on so they are not sitting on the hard tile floor. The mission of this project is the same as my previous project, which is:

I am hoping for flexible seating options to create an engaging and fun learning experience.

I am looking forward to introducing more seating options to the students to provide them with more choices! They can sit on the floor with the new seats and use the fidget tools when they need to focus and reengage. The new seating I am asking for branches away from typical desk arrangements and provides students with other alternatives so they don't need to sit directly on the floor.

The latest research has shown that seating choice helps students focus, work together, and find the learning environment that is most comfortable to best meet their needs!
