A Few Apps a Day Keep the Boredom Away

My students need iTunes cards to buy apps that will enhance their learning in all content areas, including: reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and the arts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Thanks to generous donors, my students now have enough iPads to work in groups of two. They also have the free versions of some great apps. My students need the full-versions of these apps to take full advantage of the educational power of our iPads.

I generally teach a very diverse group of students.

This past academic year, I taught students whose families have roots in Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, India, the Philippines, Jamaica, Italy, and various parts of the United States. Of my twenty-seven students, twelve were from single family households. Seven of my students were English learners. Most of my students were from working class families and were eligible for free or reduced school lunches. Though many of my students' families had limited resources to invest in their children's educations, they supported our classroom with what money they could or with their time. Despite the challenges that my students constantly face, as a group, they were an energetic bunch who came to class every day eager to learn. They especially thrived in using technology to enhance their learning in the areas of writing and math.

My Project

The iTunes cards you fund will allow my students to have full-versions of many great apps which will enhance their learning. Apps like "Math Tables" will provide my students with eight different, highly engaging games that will help my students practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. With apps like "Paper," my students will be able to take notes, draw tables, make and label sketches, outline presentations, and use their creative imaginations and artistic skills to enhance every lesson they take part in. There are many other great apps I plan to buy for my students and I hope to discover even more during the summer.

Best of all, your donation to this project will not only benefit my students.

The apps I will download will also be available to the students in two other classrooms. So your donation will actually have a powerful impact upon the learning of three classrooms. Thank you in advance for your support!
