A Fan-Cactus Independent Reading Center

My Project

My students come from homes where they did not receive exposure to print or engaging literature. These students came to school without any knowledge of alphabetic principles.

It is my goal to provide these students with a fun and independent reading center where they can engage with reading of interest at their own pace.

We also have a large student to teacher ratio and this will be an added area where students can take control of their own learning. A round carpet to go under our short reading table and classroom themed cactus cushions would allow students comfortable and flexible seating as they read. The bin will provide storage for student reading folders and the canisters will allow easy access to reading tools students need. The googly eyes, Popsicle sticks, eyeball rings and wands are all fun tools students can choose from when using one to one correspondence in reading. Artificial cacti in pails will add a finishing touch to make this new reading center enticing to students. These items together will supply our classroom with a truly Fan-CACTUS Reading Center to be enjoyed by all students!
