My Students

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I ask them, "Who is excited to learn today?" They call back,

"We are!"

As first graders, this is the first year they are in school a full day. Sitting in chairs that are too tall for most (their feet don't reach the ground), makes the day even longer.

It is very difficult for 6 year olds to focus on learning when they are so uncomfortable. They would benefit from hands-on learning!

My school is in a middle class area, which makes it tough to garner extras for the class; we are not a Title I or SIG school, yet we are also not wealthy enough for parents to be able to donate costly extras. We are a "Tweener School"!

Although we have 3 wobble seats, it is a debate every day for who gets to use them! They have been so helpful, I would love to have a class set!

My Project

My class has 3 of these wobble chairs, which are in constant rotation and demand. We use them to engage core muscles, fidget, and yet remain focused on the task at hand. They are easily moved, which encourages class flow, my ability to get around to each student.

We do a major amount of STEAM activities, including collaborative conversations, and technology and building to support the Common Core standards.

These wobble chairs make fluidity of movement in the classroom a cinch.

Students are able to concentrate and use their body's natural energy and that is why the chairs are so needed.
