We are a 4th grade team of 57 students in suburban Pittsburgh, PA from a 4-6 building. Being a fourth grader is tough work as it is the first year with many new faces all combining from the district's 5 primary schools. The students love having their own lockers (with locks!) and a bit more freedom in the bigger school. We love to read and collaborate. We take pride in our learning and work hard to prepare for the future.
A dry erase table will serve as a collaboration center in the classroom. It will be a place where small groups can work together with ample space to share their ideas with classmates. These ideas can develop and change during their collaboration with the ease of an eraser.
The table will be a place to develop our classroom community.
It will be a place to answer morning meeting questions, discuss quotes from our reading through Text Graffiti, and make connections through Chalk Talk activities.
The table will allow students to practice classroom skills, like editing dialogue, comparing and contrasting, or ordering the planets. I'm looking forward to seeing my students continue to grow as learners as they use the dry erase table to communicate and collaborate more effectively with classmates.
