This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hands on kindergarten learning is the way kids learn! Worksheets just don't reach kids in the same way as building words with magnetic letters or acting out character feeling in a book. But to make this academic play true learning- we need to memorialize it. And our Camera is broken. Again.
I have the pleasure of serving twenty kindergarten students year after year in a high-needs school in California.
Despite the fact that over 90% of my students are receiving free or reduced lunch, they always come to school every day motivated to learn. For these kids, hands on engaging learning is the key to their academic success.
My Project
My students need a rough and tough Canon digital camera to make a permanent record of their hands on interactive learning. With a super durable kinder-proof camera - there is no telling what we can do! We take pictures of field trips for writing class stories telling the sequence of events in which things happened. We make anchor posters of emotions using ourselves to show what it looks like to feel happy, disappointed, surprised, or furious. The students use the camera in independent centers to take pictures of the patterns, sorts, play-doe words, and magnetic letters words so they have a record and accountability for their work.
A digital camera is a center piece of my curriculum and they just keep breaking!
This waterproof, drop proof, shock proof Cannon is just what we need! With your help, we can ensure that children can have access to this helpful technological learning tool regardless of their socio-economic status.
