Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a classroom of energized, excited young learners with limited school experience. Our school has 62% of students who are English Language Learners and is Title I. Presently 73% of the students in my school are in poverty. Very few of my students attended school before my classroom, and they are hungry for knowledge and hands on experiences!
My students are new readers, and are eager to learn all they can!
They love to spend time in our classroom library and always have new questions and subjects to explore. I am so lucky to spend my days coming up with new ways to make this first year of their school experience amazing,
My Project
My students need a dollhouse with furniture and multicultural families to develop language through play. As my students work hard to meet the rigorous kindergarten standards, they need opportunities to work together and develop language skills. When they problem solve with peers, and practice using new vocabulary they will be building social skills and the language necessary to become great writers and members of the school community.
Multicultural family dolls ensure that every student can see themselves as they explore the world through dramatic play.
It is critical that classrooms include books and other resources that represent a variety of cultures. These dolls will illustrate for my students that just like the dollhouse, our classroom community is made up of many different kinds of people.
Thank you in advance for supporting my students and helping kindergarten continue to be a fabulous place!
