My Students
The students at our school are in a low-income rural area, located in Northeastern Nash County, North Carolina. Although we are a low preforming school, our students are creative and outgoing. Our school has amazing support from our families and participation in activities often exceeds expectations.
Our students are special because they have awesome ideas and dreams that amaze us as their educators.
We teach our students to dream big and to excel at all they put their minds to.
My Project
Students just like our world, come in a vast array of nationalities, race, and ethnic groups. Unfortunately, not all students have had the opportunity to choose a book that shows the world that they see around them, a book that showcases the many diverse people that make up our school.
With these books, my students will have the opportunity to learn and foster conversations with their friends and classmates about the diverse world in which they live.
They will be able to read stories that expose them to the lives of others and help to foster conversations about what their friends and classmates experience.
Students will engage in reading challenges, writing reviews and have meaningful conversations about what they take away from the books they have read.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
