Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in a dual language classroom, and come from a low social economic background. Fifty percent of them are English Language Learners. Home life is not a literacy rich environment.
Most of my students struggle in reading, writing, science and math.
My kids work vary hard to overcome all the struggles that they are facing at such a young age. They will overcome the many challenges that they bring from home and outperform the expectations they have of themselves.
My Project
Diversity is an important concept to teach. There are so many teachable moments during the course of a school day about diversity and inclusion. The books in this project will allow my students to have access to literature on diversity and inclusion.
My students' love for reading will be fostered.
Based on research access to books improves children's ability and desire to read.
Students need to be taught that there is one world and many cultures that we can learn from. The books that I have chosen for this project will allow my students to read and understand books on diversity, inclusion and acceptance.
My students will have an opportunity to individually read, peer read, discuss the chosen books and then teach what they learned from them. They will also have the opportunity to take home and share this experience with their family.
