My Students

My students are "koala-ty" learners that attend a Title I school in Hawthorne, CA. My students have unique strengths, but one thing they have in common is a strong love of learning. Although they may not have a lot of resources to keep up with the ever changing world, they are always up for the challenge of learning something new.

In this class, we build a community of lifelong learners.

My students are constantly working hard and eager to learn. We are always working in small groups at the carpet or at their desks, or sitting together at the rug, and this year it is going to look different.

I strive to make our classroom, in person and from a distance, the best environment possible where my students can express themselves creatively and be exposed to all sorts of learning experiences.

My Project

As our classrooms begin to slowly reopen, I am working towards creating a more diverse library for my students. My goal is to have books in which my students are able to see themselves.

I want my students to read the books in our classroom and be able to make connections to the characters in the books.

I want to hear "Oh, I know that!" and "I love this book!" while they are searching through our library.

Through distance learning, I have been able to find and show videos of diverse books to my students, but I would love for them to be able to actually see and read the books themselves.
