This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are extremely committed to a more radically just world. They come from all different walks of life, and in a city like DC, with remarkable Black history and intense gentrification, students have noticed that our classroom libraries lack stories that reflect their own.
Diversifying our library with stories of Black and brown protagonists will better reflect my students' lived experiences so they can better see themselves represented in our classroom, increase engagement and foster a lifelong love of reading!
