A Diverse and Inclusive Classroom Library!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Douglas's classroom raised $733
This project is fully funded
My Students
I teach 27 amazing first graders in a predominantly African-American, Title I, inner-city Baltimore school. We have many wonderful programs at our school, including a recreation center and a Judy Center. My students are eager to learn and are very creative, resilient, and kind. Although my students come in ready to learn every day, they don't always have the materials necessary to complete all of our tasks for the day or the things that we need to keep our classroom clean and healthy. My students and I would be so grateful to receive new materials that they can use to help them prepare for second grade and beyond!
My Project
This project includes books that will allow my students to see the diversity of the world around them. These books include African stories, stories about Asian-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Black-Americans, Muslim-Americans, stories of members of the LGBTQIA community, plus more!
Students will be able to see themselves in these texts!
They will find literature more intriguing and engaging as they listen to stories about other children around the world who experience life in a similar way as they do. Yet, they will also find engagement from learning about people who live in a totally different way than them!
This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
