A Dinosaur in the Room

My Students

Student: What is that box? Me: It is my laptop. Students: You need a new one. That is what I hear from the students. I really need a new laptop that will allow me to serve my students. Can you help bring me into the New Year with a new laptop?

I am a counselor in an urban school that receives federal funding for programs that provide free breakfast and lunch for every student, and Title I services for economically disadvantaged boys and girls.

We also serve a community which includes military families, gifted students, and ELL/ESL students. Our students are a diverse group, culturally and economically. I am blessed by a job that allows me to help children overcome the many academic, personal, social, and emotional issues that could otherwise impede their educational opportunities, as well as teach them the life skills that underlie success in academics, family and peer relationships, and a career.

My Project

I am requesting an HP laptop to replace the outdated laptop that I am currently using. The old laptop crashes when I try to establish a connection to the Internet. It doesn't have enough storage space for files. A new laptop will allow me to better serve our students and parents. I need a new laptop with updated software. With a new laptop I will be able to use the media hardware to show clips during classroom lessons. Students would be able to work online without the hourglass turning and spinning without doing anything. A new laptop will allow me to connect with the community at-large to develop our current programs and reach out to build school relations with stakeholders.

This is a special time of the year when acts of kindness are abundant.
