My Project
A modern, cutting-edge classroom is no longer a nice-to-have-- if we want our students at their most productive, their most inspired, and their most creative, it's an absolute requirement. We have worked hard at my school to make this a reality: my own room is decked out with a massive smart screen, one-to-one iPads, a professional printer, high-end speakers, and even our own podcast studio (MANY of these items are thanks to the incredible generosity of Donor's Choose donors!)
To take the next step in making their learning come alive, I am requesting five incredible digital cameras.
Most of the students are familiar with the art of photography purely through their phones-- and sure, that is a great and fun way to capture life on the go, as far as it goes.
With these cameras, though, the students will become acquainted with the greater power and depth that a dedicated camera can produce. Rather than relying on a phone to handle all the details, students will fully take control over shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and focus, plus have the creative freedom to explore long exposures, motion blur, shallow depth of field, and more. They will be able to capture action shots with more dynamic range with professional results. In short, I will be able to challenge the students to a greater degree to take full control of their creative output. And in my long career as an educator, I have ALWAYS found that the greater the challenge, the more the students rise to the occasion.
With these professional cameras in hand, along with the other amazing tools our classroom space is already stocked with, students will be able to create incredible multimedia projects, incorporating professional-level sound and images with their own creative ideas and vision.
