A Different Approach to Hands On Learning

My Students

Engage, make learning fun, interactive,a goal that every student can see themselves achieving. That's what I aim to do with my first graders. I want them to feel success, see success, & know that it doesn't matter where you come from, or what life has dealt them, they can do it! Yes they can!

I teach at a school in the middle of agriculture field.

A lot of my students may come to school after spending mornings working in the fields to help their families, they come in, a little sleepy but wanting and willing to learn. Some of my students are bussed in from the main area of town as well, taking a long 20+ minute bus ride to get to and from school. It is my job to do whatever I can, to make learning come alive for them, to make them see that there is more to life than what they have, that they can go out there and be whatever they want to be and succeed at it.

My Project

This project will help learning come alive for these students. They will be more engaged, more willing to learn and accept that they too can have and are deserving of success. It is helping to build the foundation of a successful school year and school career for these young minds. My students will use these Boogie Boards throughout the entire school year and will help my students from years to come. We will work on handwriting at the beginning of the year. Through out the year these boards will be used for spelling, phonics, sight words, math exploration, science note taking.... the possibilities are endless. They will also help me as a teacher. This will help reduce our use of paper/photo copying, and it will eliminate dry erase markers. So these boards will save me time in the work room and money at the store.

My students are a group of dreamers, believers, and doers.

I am the only first grade teacher at my school, therefore I am on my own when it comes to providing for my students. I alone am responsible for the learning that goes on in my classroom, and I though it can be challenging, I do what it takes to reach these sweet students.
