Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Every spring over 100 teachers come together on the San Jose State Campus in downtown San Jose with 2-4 of their students for Student Appreciation Day. All the students who attend Student Appreciation Day attend school in low-income areas around downtown San Jose and East Palo Alto. The students share in arts and crafts, games, prizes, scavenger hunts and music. This year is sure to be even better than the last. Currently I am a second-year teacher in east San Jose. Last year I was able to take three of my second graders to this event. My students were able to enjoy learning and working with other students from around the Bay Area. Coming together and building community allows students to reach beyond the borders of their school district and interact with other kids in a safe environment. For this event we need a lot of materials. Therefore I am breaking the proposal into two parts. In this part I am requesting the plates, soda, and cups for approximately 300 students. All the students at the event will be participating in the games, arts and crafts and lunch. I cannot express how much this day means for the children of Alum Rock and East Palo Alto.
