This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 1st grade at a fantastic urban school in a working class community. Nearly 100% of the students are on free or reduced lunch and most are English language learners. Three of the students are mainstreamed from a Special Education class for most of the day. They are a great group of kids who are always eager to learn new things and share them with everyone they know.
The current reading program that we use does not provide many exciting opportunities to develop oral reading fluency. Many of the passages that we read are too difficult for my students and they give up half way through. The result is choppy robotic oral reading.
When I have used Reader's Theater in the classroom I have seen amazing results. The students can't wait to practice the plays and perform for each other. However, creating my own scripts is difficult and time-consuming. The scripts that I am requesting are perfect. They are already written out for students and the parts are even highlighted! Furthermore, the scripts cover various genres that my students need to be exposed to.
I am so excited about these resources! I know that my students will love using them and that I will be able to use them in a wide range of situations. Most importantly, I know that by using these scripts my students will become more fluent readers. Your generous contribution will surely make a difference in their reading success.
