it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
After a long 13 year run teaching kindergarten, I am moving to first grade next year. This project is being written to benefit all of the 24 students that I will be teaching next year. I have been learning about some practices that I need to learn more about for next year.
My students deserve the best education in the world.
They deserve to have a teacher that feels confident in teaching them things in new ways or ways that are the most efficient. They deserve to receive a strong foundation!
My Project
When I was in school I had heard the term "guided reading" but a lot of emphasis was put on receiving additional training when you get hired for your specific grade. I was hired as a kinder teacher and didn't really hear any other information about this. I never though anything of it and my students were moving on to first grade prepared.
I have recently learned there was so much more I could be doing!
I could have been doing guided reading these past 13 years with my kindergarten students but our district wasn't focused on guided reading. I discovered Jen Jones of HelloLiteracy and my mind is blown! I have learned so much already but in order to give my next group of students the education they deserve I would love to go to her conference to ensure I have the most knowledge I can have.
I am teaching first grade next year and it is crucial they leave first grade reading and comprehending at the highest level possible.
