This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Family and Consumer Science Students are getting back to the basics. These mixed-ability and diverse students are in desperate need of essential skills, specifically in learning culinary basics.

Many students spent a lot of time at home during the Pandemic and realized they did not have the adequate skills that it takes to manage their time for making meals, to clean properly around and care for the home, knowing and implementing safety precautions, not to mention making the connections of how these all impact their health and future abilities to be safe and independent.

Back in the classroom, the first task students did was to brainstorm ideas, prioritizing everything that they felt was important to know and learning about the basics that could be addressed in our Family and Consumer Science Courses. Culinary and Kitchen Safety was at the top and we are in need of knives to equip our kitchen lab.
