Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager, enthusiastic young artists. They come into the art studio willing to learn, take risks and explore their creative potential. Through our time together, I have had the opportunity to know them as individuals. Many have come up through hardships in their childhood that is more than anyone should experience in a lifetime - yet, they persevere. They attended classes, passed exams and applied to college. For many, this a dream that they are living. My youngsters are amazing individuals. They want to be positive members of society, want to participate in problem solving, and want to find success in their academic endeavors. My students' eagerness for learning surpasses expectations. I take honor in my role as their teacher. I hope to inspire, motivate and open their ideas to creative endeavors.
My Project
For this proposal, I am requesting a Cricut machine which is an computerized, die-cut machine that not only cleanly cuts letters and titles, but a variety of images and shapes. The accuracy of the shapes elevates the students’ posters and displays, building a professional result that is truly inspiring.
The art room is like the kitchen of a home, its the heart and soul of a school.
It is where students gather, engage, and come together not only to make art, but to discuss larger issues from current events, life issues, and work together to improve their academic understanding. STEM is an over arching concept that has been embraced in my art room. Often, the art room supports all other academic and common core curriculum and units. When students work and support each other to build understanding of often complex units in Math and Science, and express their ideas in a visually appealing display is truly wonderful to witness. Using art to support STEM in a visually stunning way not only insures deeper learning but is tangible representative of the hard work and dedication of my students.
