Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is a group of middle school students with disabilities in a life skill class. The students live in a community that 90% receive free lunch. The students are hardworking and enjoy interacting with others. They enjoy doing errands throughout the building which enables them to socialize with others. This also gives the student body an opportunity to see them and understand they are just like them. The students have various disabilities, but does not let that stop them from achieving their goals on a daily basis. The students have learned to work together and are excited about started a new job that will help the school.
My Project
A traveling coffee shop will have the opportunity to socialize with staff throughout the building and use their communication skills. Students will use their math and writing skills when taking orders. This coffee shop will give them the confidence needed to show them they can get a job and be independent one day. This coffee shop will also help other students see that although they are in a special education life skill class they are capable of having a job that will benefit the building. This also will help some of our autistic children to practice talking to individuals they may not know.
