My Project

As a Career and Technical Education teacher, my number one goal is to give my students certifications and experience that they can use to gain employment during and after high school. My programs of study are Food Production, Management, and Services & Nutrition Science. My students gain real world certifications such as ServSafe Food Handler, ServSafe Food Manager, and Servsafe Food Allergen. These certifications are industry recognized and help my students to gain employment or attain a raise.

Culinary competitions are vital to my program.

Competing in competitions such as ProStart and FCCLA Culinary STAR events can not only give them valuable experience, it could also allow them to earn them scholarship money they can use for college or technical school. I also want the environment of my classroom to mimic the environment of working in a commercial kitchen. The more experience my students gain, the more employable they are in a highly competitive work world.

My students are wanting to take part in more competitions. The items I have added to our cart are the items we are needing to compete in more culinary competitions. For these competitions, we are required to have certain items. We need chef coats and hats. We need portable storage that students can use to mise' en place for their recipes. We also need finishing items that will allow them to wrap up their recipes such as the butane torch and the whipped cream finisher.
