A Cozy Reading Spot with Great Books!
My students need a soft rug, some new books and comfy pillows.
My students face hunger, homelessness, and other issues every day. It's my job to give them a comforting place to learn.
Nearly all of my students are very low socioeconomic.
Many of my students' families go to great lengths to live in our city instead of on the nearby reservation. While in the classroom, they have issues focusing on learning, and many don't see the benefit of learning with so much going on in their lives outside of school. I want to create a space in my classroom that will give them a cozy spot to forget about home for a bit and lose themselves in a good book.
My students will be able to better focus on reading. They will also be exposed to a genre of books that our school library does not carry many of. With the addition of a soft rug, some new books and comfy pillows, my students could relax and focus on reading. New books would expose them to new vocabulary, new authors, and new experiences through reading.
A child can learn about anything through reading about it, but they need books and a comfortable space to read.
With this project, I hope to provide both to the students in my classroom this year and in the coming years.
