My Students

My students are a culturally diverse group of first grade children in Philadelphia. They have a wide range of abilities and interests. During the first grade year they must each develop their reading skills immensely in order to continue to be successful.

Reading is one of the most marvelous adventures anyone can ever have.

In our classroom the children love to work together to improve sight word recognition, fluency, phonemic awareness and comprehension. We are cultivating a lifelong love of reading!

My Project

The Comfy Couch and Big Bean Bag Chairs will help to create a library that feels like home to my little people! The classroom library should be a place where my children will want to sit and relax and read for pleasure. Ideally, 4-6 students will be able to sit comfortably and read alone or with a partner.

Reading to self and partner reading are proven strategies in early literacy to practice skills learned in whole group and guided reading lessons.

In our library the children can practice reading fluency and learn to love books while feeling cozy and warm!
