I teach a self-contained classroom of kindergarten, first and second grade students. My group of learners have a variety of needs, interests and abilities. They are an energetic, friendly and charismatic bunch that are eager to learn. They are hard workers, who are not easily deterred. We differentiate, modify and scaffold for the children to provide them with a safe, inclusive and caring learning environment.
In the classroom, we focus on self management skills and promoting independence for each child.
Our goal is to create a learning environment where every child can be successful.
My Project
A cozy corner will provide students a safe space to venture to when they need to self regulate. It will allow the students to access what they need, in order to be successful academically. It will promote independence, as well as guide children to learn about themselves and what works for them as learners. The other materials chosen will fulfill the children's sensory and educational needs. The chair socks will reduce noise for learners who are sensitive to sound and are easily distracted. The kickbands for chairs will allow children to access physical output in their space to work productively. The visual timer will help students who have trouble transitioning to the next activity by visually showing how much time they have left for the activity.
These tools will provide an inclusive classroom for all types of learners.
