This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach pre-k and kindergarten in Yonkers, NY. My students range in age from 3 to 6 years old. Our school is the only public Montessori school in the country that educates children from pre-k through twelfth grade. We have over 1,200 students enrolled. It's a wonderful place for students from diverse backgrounds to grow educationally, get involved, and have a meaningful pre-k through high school experience. Our instructional program is rooted in the Montessori philosophy. The curriculum and extra-curricular activities are aligned with New York State Common Core Standards.
My Project
COVID restrictions forced us to get rid of the large carpet that was in our morning meeting area. The carpet was the main meeting area for our students. It was where we gathered to read stories, where we sang and played games and where we sat for small group instruction. We have recently learned that we can have our carpets back... except our carpet has been rolled up in storage for two years and is no longer in suitable condition. We would love to bring back the carpet in our morning meeting area. A carpet in our library area would also be a great addition! Please help us create an engaging space in our classroom community by contributing to new carpets for our morning meeting and library areas.
