My Students

My students are first graders in a small, country school in Maine. We love to learn about our community, our state, and the world. We are a Title I School with low to high income students. More than a third of our students are from low-income households.

We are hoping that you will invest in our classroom, and we are very excited to have more flexible seating on the carpet to use while completing math and literacy activities.

My Project

Flexible classroom seating is growing more popular as teachers are reinventing classroom design. Many teachers are realizing the connection between comfort and classroom results in academics. My students need alternate seating in the classroom to help them find a space that works best for them. When I work, I want to be comfortable and my choice usually isn't a hard plastic chair. The new furniture will provide the students with a different option besides a hard chair. Many students also have attention problems, and being able to move and change seating can eliminate some behavior issues that may arise. The wobble chair, bean bags, and floor chairs will make them more comfortable. I will also use these flexible seating options as incentive for good behavior and effort in academics.

Flexibility encourages comfort and independence, which allows students to choose independent or group seating setups that they feel best support their learning.By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

When students are in an environment that is comfortable and welcoming, learning flows much easier. Students spend a lot of time in my classroom, and I want that time to be challenging academically, fun, and comfortable. Thank you for considering our classroom for your Donors Choose donation.
